Amazing Women

How many of you have read this book?
If you have not had the pleasure I urge to pick up a copy and dive in to the lives of some pretty amazing women.
The five women focused on are: Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba, and Mary. The stories are chronologically arranged to demonstrate the progression of the women who are specifically mentioned in the Biblical record of the lineage of Jesus Christ. Their history is so vividly brought to life in these stories, I finished this book in record time. What was amazing to me was how each story was so unique and took place so long ago yet still reflected things so many of us as women still struggle with today...betrayal, abuse, past mistakes, demands of culture and "religion", feelings of unworthiness, and struggle within our families. So many great details that she respectfully and carefully wove in to the historical accounts we read in the bible. I found myself wishing for more at the end of each story. I left each one thanking God for His grace and mercy. Diving right back into my bible to read and study His account of these women.
This is a book I would love to to with a group of women as a study and one I can not recommend enough to all of you who read this blog. If you have read this book I would love to hear what you thought of it...so please share :)

Crafts, and Cali Cat

The following is a story based on actual events that transpired in our home approximately two weeks ago..names have been omitted to protect the innocent...
Do you see these beads, do you see the empty chairs,
do you see this unfinished unicorn?
At some point during this 4 hour crafting nightmare...er marathon I looked up from this mind numbing...er pretty unicorn to see that my children had abandoned me. I was left alone to finish what was supposed to be a quick little craft first thing in the morning.
This beaded, multicolored, made for fairy size fingers nightmare...er craft should have come with a HUGE warning label on the packaging:
"Any all persons with fingers bigger that a newborns this craft will reduce you and those around to sobbing, bleary eyed, fetal position rocking, blobs of goo on the kitchen floor. Where your husband will come home for lunch to find you and then proceed to try to "show" how easy it is before joining you on the floor in said fetal position. "
Had I read such a warning label while standing in the craft aisle at Walmart I wold have ever so gracefully flung...er placed it back on the shelf and proceeded to buy the over priced Martha Stewart craft instead of this devil sent...er made in china bargain craft...
Amen
And just to get your mind off my rant on onto to something much cuter...
Please enjoy this picture of our cat in her new favorite place to watch me, her loving owner be defeated by cheap crafts!

Long Overdue

(taken before the cold weather set in)
So where do I begin, this poor blog has been sorely neglected as of late.
This whole homeschooling gig is very time consuming! ;0
My brain is tired by the afternoon and I fall asleep exhausted almost every night.
Keeping my littles engaged and learning for most of the day is a lot easier said than done!
Most days are great and we move from A to B to C with ease and laughter but then we hit those days where I must remind myself to breathe and remind myself that this is what we chose and what is working for our family regardless of the situation in that moment.
I have found that homeschooling here in this itsy bitsy small town an hour from the nearest city is vastly different than homeschooling in a thriving busy city with lot's to do even on the worst of weather days. That has been a tough one to get around when we are all feeling restless and the weather prevents us from heading out to a great indoor attraction. But as with everything else in life we will figure it out! :)
I have organized and reorganized the "school room" (read: dining room)
at least 6 times in the 6 weeks we have been schooling and last night I completely rearranged the furniture and at last feel like life is complete! lol
My kids seem to be enjoying it as well which is a HUGE relief.
I have had a few people ask them out of my earshot (not at my request lol) what they think in order to get a real answer, and they still say they prefer it to going to regular school!
!!!!WHEW!!!!
I must say though that answering the same three questions every time we go out in public during school hours is getting pretty old!
1. "Why are you kids not in school?"
2. "Do you really learn at home with your mom?"
3. Why would you choose to do this?... I would never do that!"
I have gotten very good at the smile and nod!
In other news we are finally getting our basement back.
90% of our furniture is back and the paint has officially begun to appear on the walls again thanks to some help from a certain
Mom-in-Law. ;b
Weight loss journey still in full swing although I will admit to a skipped week and more than one but less than 1o extremely unhealthy desserts consumed during that week...but I try not to stress to much over that and just keep moving forward. I do hope to be out of the 14' s and into the 12's before Christmas...we shall see ;b

"Trashy Neighbours"

"One of these things is not like the others....."
"One of these things just doesn't belong...."
Our garbage...
Our neighbour to the left...

Our neighbour across the street...

Two houses down the street....

And back to us.....
I have a funny feeling we have become the trashy neighbours...

Friend Day

We had friend day today at the Sawatzky's....
Regular school was closed...
It was CRAZY busy....
It was CRAZY loud at times....
I have 5 kids tucked in tonight instead of three...
But three wonderful littles had a blast today with my three littles....
And I sit here tonight feeling blessed that my kids have such great friends placed in their lives and I will take a crazy day with their friends to see the joy it puts on their little faces.

Happy Friday

One of our art projects for the week!
The hardest part was finding a wall big enough to hang it that didn't already have stuff on it!

We did it...we did it...yeah, we did it!

Anyone sing the title like Dora?... ;b

First morning of school.
Well we did it!
We survived our first day of homeschooling, and we survived it with flying colors!
The kids were eager and ready to learn. It was an encouraging way to start our journey because I know it will not always be smooth sailing. These first weeks and months will be a learning time for me as well. Figuring out how to keep Wyatt busy, and get everything done that needs to get done, figuring out what order we need to approach our subjects, when do they need a break to stretch and be silly, and I need a Diet Pepsi Max!
But I will say that I was a bit nervous for our first day....nervous enough to forget to wash the conditioner out of my hair in the shower and not notice until it was blow dried and looking limp and oily...Shawn just laughed but I was not impressed with flat hair on our first day of school! ;b

'Twas the night before....

'Twas the night before the first day of homeschool and, all through the house not a creature was stirring not even a mouse. For the day before they all had gone to the beach to swim, and soak up the sun, and came home with more than one sandy bum.
So tonight while I type my littles are snuggled in tight,
Wyatt Henry
Preschool...
Sophia Estella
Kinder/Grade 1
Jackson William
Grade 2

...all the supplies are ready and laid out.
Can you tell I am excited and probably over organized.

Jackson's first few minutes will be spent in review sharpening his writing skills by practicing his name, the alphabet , and a few sentences about his summer

Sophia's will be spent tracing and writing her first name and a few letters and sight words she had already learned.

And Wyatt....well I have hopes but we will it take as it comes with him :)
